Artist's Comments

Multi-part tutorial for how I go about the use of colored pencils. I admit straight off that I'm not terribly organized in my method and it generally consists of changing pencils every ten seconds or so. I'm not one of those people who can use one pencil completely, call it done, and then move on to the next one. No, I have my pile of pencils and constantly switch. It is not uncommon to see me with a few pencils in my mouth as I really get into it.

I hope this is helpful, or at least entertaining. This is part four of six.

Now we're starting to get into the part that most probably care about, the actual character. And I'm dain proud of those trees.

Images taken with Olympus Evolt E-500 digital SLR on manual mode. I used Pentax's digital spot meter to take the exposure readings, and it is an amazing little tool. The camera was mounted on a tripod and using very low exposure speeds.

what is the brand of crayons you use?
:iconlantairvlea:
In this particular piece I used predominantly Prismacolors, which have a very wide range (130 colors?). I am also rather fond of Staedtler's Ergosoft colored pencils (though they only come in sets of 12 and 24), which are what I used on the Mineit Deities (featured on my front page), Trephi, and Calzephyr pieces. I've tried some by Derwent, the studio are a little harder in the lead and I think are more clay-based, the artists are more waxy like the Prismas. I hear Faber-Castell also makes some nice ones, but they're terribly expensive. Anyway, the two I mentioned first are the ones that I usually use (and really, I'm leaning towards the Staedtler's lately because of the challenge of the limited palette and they just feel plain cool in the hand) hopefully that helps!

ya,thx a lot:D...i'm having huge trouble finding pencils that aren't for kids in my country^^;...i think i'll just search the internet for these brands

You're welcome! Another brand I know of is Lyra that is a lot easier to find in Europe than it is in the US, I think they do both kid and professional pencils. Good luck in your search!
